l listened to the audio of the March 24 PHAC meeting. I believed the Mayor that the borough was not involved. Because of what was said like “No one say ore terminal” and “We need to phrase this right or there will be an firestorm,” the committee openly catered to foreign interests and everyone in that room knew it or else they should have stopped it before it started. Phase 2 and roll off repairs were already approved. I fully agree with Thom Ely that we should step back and involve the community every little step of the way. This will more than service the needs of the community. The $20 million in federal money was not intended for the benefit of foreign corporations as assembly member Thomas implied. That benefit ends at the border. The money to be spent be on Phase 3 could be used to fund the pool all year and other much needed repairs or projects. With inflation and the market getting set to dive, whatever the cost estimate now won’t come close to actual cost. Re: vote and pull Phase 3. Assign someone like assembly member Huling who cares what the majority have to say to chair the committee and if that is not permissible, change the rules so she is. Otherwise trusting the process will be impossible. Elected officials are supposed to act on the will of the people, not just the few.
