Throughout the year in Haines, you have to watch where you’re walking due to all the dog poop left on both private and public properties. More than a visual, smelly mess, dog poop is a pollutant and human health hazard. As it breaks down it enters our air pathways and leaches into the ground, washing into our water supply. According to the Centers for Disease Control, pet waste carries bacteria, parasites, E. coli, parvovirus, salmonella, and other diseases that can be TRANSMITTED TO HUMANS. The Haines Borough has posted signs that state there is a $75-$500 fine applicable to those of you not disposing of your pet waste properly. Pet owners, please take the responsibly to keep our community clean and safe.
