Haines Friends of Recycling has added markers, magnifying glasses and magnets by the bins at the recycle center to make your sorting easier.  Your efforts to sort accurately saves us time and money!

We know that reading those tiny numbers in the triangles on plastics can be difficult but there are tricks to make it easy. Most often simply rubbing marker over the numbers will make the numbers stand out. The additional use of a magnifying glass makes even the very small numbers easy to read. To make it even easier, the only numbers you need to know are 1 & 2. They are the only plastics recyclable at this time.

The magnets located by aluminum and steel bins are to help with the sorting of metals. If items stick to the magnet, they go in the steel bin and the ones that don’t stick go in the aluminum bin.

Please take the time to sort your clean recyclables carefully.
