Stan Jones sold the Valley of the Eagles Golf Course to California-based geo technical engineer Frank Berlogar and local resident Clayton Jones.
The property had been on the market for the past five years, Stan Jones said. The sale closed Dec. 28.
“We couldn’t be more pleased,” he said, describing the golf course as a “labor of love.”
Jones, a retired physician, built the golf course in 2003 and first opened the course to golfers in 2006. “Unfortunately, it’s a low volume golf course and it doesn’t make sense to operate as a golf course. It is just not a viable business, really,” Stan Jones said. “It was more a labor of love than a successful business venture.”
He said the course will be available to golfers this summer, but the future of the land is uncertain after that.
“I don’t know what the modus operandi will be for (the long term), but right now the plan is that it will be available as a golf course this summer,” Jones said.
Berlogar purchased the land under his business Berlogar Family Development. He has developed land and built custom homes in Pleasanton, California. Berlogar said he and his business partner, Clayton Jones, have yet to decide what the future use of the property will be as they continue to assess the property’s topographic, environmental and physical constraints.
“It doesn’t make sense to talk about what we might do with it yet,” Berlogar said. “We’re still trying to get our arms around the property and how to go about making it more of an asset to the community.”
The properties include three parcels, the 140-acre golf course, and a 3.7-acre subdivision and an 8.4-acre subdivision on the northeast corner of the golf course. Berlogar said he and Jones will eventually divide the property and Clayton Jones will own the golf course parcel. Berlogar said he purchased the land because it’s “an amazing piece of real estate in a beautiful part of the world.”
Clayton Jones did not return requests for comment.
Kathy Jones, Stan’s wife, declined to state the purchase price.
