No injuries reported

An Alaska Seaplanes Grand Caravan headed to Skagway on Friday morning crashed at the Juneau airport immediately after takeoff.

Early reports said the plane was headed eventually to Haines, but it was going only to Skagway, according to Alaska Seaplanes marketing manager Andy Kline.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is looking into the incident but hasn’t opened a full investigation, according to NTSB spokesperson Keith Holloway. Kline said it’s not clear yet what caused the crash. The plane got off the ground but “not very high,” Kline said, before crashing near the runway.

There were no injuries, Kline said.

Alaska Seaplanes grounded its flights on Friday but resumed its normal schedule over the weekend.

The airline has four Cessna 208 Grand Caravans in its fleet, all used on routes to Skagway and Haines, Kline said.

Although no one from Haines was on the flight, the plane that crashed “is one of the planes that people in Haines have seen a lot over the years,” Kline said. “A lot of people (from Haines) have flown in that plane, I’m sure.”
