Dear Editor,
There are so many smart, capable, and caring people living in the Chilkat Valley. I honestly believe that we here are blessed with an uncommon abundance of such individuals. And I am very happy that two of the most intelligent and kindhearted people that I know are running for Assembly. Debra Schnabel and Tyler Huling are committed to representing the interests of our community, all of our community, first and foremost. They don’t ascribe to the fractional politics that have so often plagued Borough government. Our community is a mosaic of different backgrounds and viewpoints, all of them valuable. We are most definitely not divided into “us and them.” Debra and Tyler both know that. They won’t be basing decisions on these false perceptions of community division. They will never side with outside parties over the interests and concerns of local community members, and they will never use their positions of political power to try and sabotage the efforts of local people and organizations. Debra brings with her a lifetime of local experience and knowledge. Tyler is a lifelong Alaskan and brings a youthful vision, perspective on a rapidly shifting future that only the young can truly understand, and life and work experiences gained in places as far away as Africa. I can’t imagine a better team to be stepping up into leadership here in the Chilkat Valley, especially at this time. Thanks to both of them for having the courage and the care to do so.
