The First Friday arts scene continues on Main Street on Friday, Oct. 1, 5-7 p.m.
At the Haines Brewing Company, Lizzie Jurgeleit will display about 10 of her watercolor paintings, medium to large canvases inspired by trips she has made around Alaska and the Yukon Territory.
A 2010 Haines High School graduate, Jurgeleit is an interior designer in Juneau. She said she finds time to paint on evenings and weekends. She blends her impressions of a place, starting with sketches she makes on site.
She has recently created calendars featuring her art and expects to create another one for 2022. She’ll be on-hand and in-person at the brewery. “I’m excited to come back and see everyone,” she said.
The Bookstore and Ampersand Alaska are teaming up to offer an auction and art sales to benefit the medical fund of resident Willow Bryant, who is suffering from an eating disorder.
Silent auction items at the art shop include a Gene Kennedy grizzly bear windvane, a Sharon Svenson mosaic, Becky Nash quilts, paintings by Merrick Bochart and porcelain-on-tin art mugs by Laura Rogers. Auction items comprise the store’s window-front display. Bidding ends at 7 p.m. on Oct. 1.
Next door at the The Bookstore, Debi Knight Kennedy will feature new carvings. All proceeds of her sales will benefit Willow’s care.
The Alaska Arts Confluence office and gallery will feature an exhibit of color photography by Larry Johansen. Scenes include wildlife and Alaska landscapes featuring mountains and water.
The Haines Sheldon Museum will be exhibiting Treasure from the Vault 2, a rotating collection of artifacts from the museum vault that aren’t typically on display.
Haines School students will showcase their skate-park art from 4 to 6 p.m. The students, led by art teacher Giselle Miller, covered graffiti at the skate park and painted new images across the walls.
