At the Haines Borough Assembly meeting on Tuesday, the assembly made plans to rehash the proposed museum separation ordinance and introduce a slightly revised version at the next meeting. There was some disagreement among assembly members about how much of the relationship between the borough and the museum should be defined in borough code versus in a memorandum of understanding negotiated with the museum.

In other assembly news, interim manager Alekka Fullerton reported that the small cruise ship American Constellation damaged the cruise chip dock. Harbormaster Sean Bell told the CVN that a mooring line was improperly tied to a bull rail. A gust of wind caused the rail to break. The cruise company will pay for the cost of repairs.

The assembly passed a resolution to authorize the borough manager to extend a construction contract with Southeast Roadbuilders for Beach Road debris removal by 30 days at a cost of $48,032.29.

The assembly approved Mayor Douglas Olerud’s appointment of Amy Kane to the library board.

Assembly member Carol Tuyman moved to amend a proposed ordinance that would change the borough code regulating sales and exchanges by negotiation and competitive proposal. Tuyman expressed concern that the proposed ordinance could reduce the public’s awareness of borough land transactions. The assembly voted 5-1 against Tuynman’s amendment. Those opposed said the proposed ordinance, as worded without Tuynman’s amendment, would streamline how the borough sells or exchanges land.
