The Haines Glacier Bear boys team had another big win in their second game in Craig, following up Tuesday night’s 67-17 victory with a 56-16 win on Wednesday night. Freshman power forward Jackson Long explained why the Glacier Bears were so dominant in this season’s first road series, “We did a good job running our plays we have been working on this season.”

After soundly defeating the Panthers the night before, Haines stuck to their game plan.  Sophomore guard Luke Davis divulged the plan. “Our plan was to first play solid defense and then to just run our offense. We were focusing on getting good ball movement and then we were able to get good shots. Playing together as a team also helped our defense, because if the guy we were guarding was able to get around us, we knew we could trust our teammates to be there to stop the drive.”

Davis led a balanced attack, scoring 14 points. His brother Mark scored 13 points, Eric Gilham 9 points,  Carson Crager 8 points, David Strong 5 points, Jayden Hotch 4 points and Zander Willard 3 points.

Gilham shared some of the team’s strategy with the CVN, describing a passing drill in which a player would drive to the hoop and then kick the ball outside. “Then, the open man would yell ‘one more’ and take the open shot.”

At this point the team faces an uncertain future, but their basketball IQ continues to grow by leaps and bounds. “I felt like we played very good team basketball,” Gilham said. “We made the extra pass when it was there, we communicated well on defense and most importantly, we had fun.”
