I am ashamed of my country’s government and many of our elected representatives. They ordered many of our young men and women in the armed forces to Afghanistan and other places where they were placed in harm’s way for very dubious reasons. Some of them came back in body bags or missing limbs or horribly disfigured. Our government gave them military honors, minimal assistance and basically forgot about them. After all, who can worry about a few widows, orphans or wounded when there are billions of borrowed dollars to be handed out to foreign countries (some of which were probably responsible for our widows, orphans and wounded) or the welfare of thousands of persons approaching our Southern border with the intent of becoming illegal immigrants (prospective voters). If you need any further evidence of our government’s disdain and disrespect for the Armed Forces just look at the treatment of the thousands of National Guard ordered to Washington D.C. to protect the Inauguration of President Biden.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am retired from the United States Air Force and had the good fortune not to have been wounded.
