I understand that our dim-witted governor has proposed closing the DMV office in Haines, which incidentally, is only open part-time. He proposes we use the ferry to access the DMV office in Juneau. Oh my god, this guy has to be smoking something. Not only does the ferry run intermittently, the ferry on the way to Haines is, as we speak, currently broken down in Juneau and is delayed by over five hours if it runs at all. A trip to the Juneau DMV from Haines involves a four-and-a-half hour ride each way, an overnight stay of at least one night and either a car rental, bus ride or taxi to get to the DMV, and that’s if you can get an appointment. And lastly, if I may, the governor has broken our ferry service. He has underfunded it and continues to defer much needed maintenance. I have an idea that would save the state money, if that is his intention. The state has the best and newest equipment and vehicles. How about we put a moratorium on the purchase of any new equipment or vehicles for a year? That in itself would save a bundle.
