It is our creek that was responsible for the “7 Mile Slide” on the Haines Highway. All of the boulders and rock debris made it to the road via our creek. Fortunately, it all stayed in the creek bed until it spilled onto the highway. The power of the flow destroyed our dam and knocked out our water system. That left us with no drinking water or water for home needs at all. We had little chance of heavy equipment helping restore it since everyone with one was booked helping so many others here with serious issues. We started catching rainwater off the roof to get us by while it was still raining. Fortunately, Zephyr Sincerny, Jeff Cantrell and Anthony Swaner stepped in and worked for two days to move giant boulders and rebuild our system infrastructure. They did all the work by hand mucking, like the old timers did mining up Porcupine Creek. Our system works again thanks to them.

We are Haines strong, but indoor plumbing is sure a welcome luxury. We thank Zephyr, Jeff and Anthony.
