I am worried about the folks who have been evacuated from their homes on Beach Road, unable to return due to the instability of the mountain above them. Many of them left with just the shirts on their backs. How can we help them? Can the public be told who they are (with their permission) and any contact information they are willing to give? I realize some have been getting meals, grocery gift cards and preliminary rent. Still, it seems like they are living like refugees in their own hometown. It would be nice if they could get a semblance of their autonomy back. Can some of the Haines Disaster Relief money be given to them as grants? Or the Haines Permanent Fund? I think this was the rainy day (literally) the Haines Permanent Fund was made for, more so than COVID. I would like to know how these good people, specifically, are being helped and what we can do locally to restore them.
Thank you,
