Hospice of Haines is thankful for our more than 30 volunteers who give of their hearts and time to provide care and support to clients through our hospice, bridge and bereavement programs. Thanks to our clients and their caregivers, who trust volunteers to provide companionship, assist with errands and activities, and walk alongside them during difficult and enduring times.
Please know that during this COVID-19 pandemic — in the overabundance of caution — we are not meeting with clients in person in order to protect both our clients and volunteers. However, our HOH volunteers are still connecting with their bridge and bereavement clients through phone conversations, texts or online video chats. HOH continually reassesses how we serve our clients based on ongoing updated COVID-19 protocols.
Fear, worry, anger, loneliness and sadness are just some of the normal feelings related to the grief surfacing during this pandemic. This grief stress can manifest in many ways. It can be helpful to decompress with someone who will maintain confidentiality and be there for us without judgment. Hospice volunteers understand the importance of being present to these emotions so that they have less negative impact on us.
We have available volunteers to connect via phone with anyone in our valley who would like to have a skilled, active listener to help ease this grief generated by our COVID world. Call Liz (hospice grief facilitator) at 303-7036 if some support might be helpful.
