Carlee Mae Heinmiller, Haines High School 2010 alum, and William Young were married just outside Fort Collins, Colorado, on June 27. Although they originally planned a destination wedding in Haines at Viking Cove, the pandemic prompted them to elope to a beautiful spot in the Roosevelt National Forest in Colorado for a private exchange of vows. Afterward, the couple gathered in their home in Fort Collins with a few close friends and family members including sister Riley Erekson, cousins Ben and Will Egolf, and cousin CJ Erekson and her husband Dennis Methvin. Parents Judy Erekson and Lee Heinmiller held a small celebration in Haines with sister Keely Falcon Baumgartner and family, where they were able to intermittently attend the celebration by Zoom throughout the couple’s special day.

After the ceremony, friends Richard, Sara and Lucia Chapell, Darsie and Courtney Culbeck, Bill Holton, Sue Libenson, Gina St Clair and Dan Humphrey joined the couple for a hike up 3920. They then continued along the ridge to 12.5 Mile for a four-day honeymoon hike.
Kate Fossman was named Young Dietitian of the Year by the Alaska Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Fossman began serving on the Alaska Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics board four years ago, when she first started working as a registered dietician in Haines at SEARHC. Fossman said the award reminds her that she is on a good path with her professional efforts. Although she is not currently the registered dietician for Haines, she said the award reflects the work she did in Haines. “Without the openness of Haines for an RD, I wouldn’t have been able to do the work to receive this award,” she said. “So thank you to all my SEARHC co-workers, patients, and to all the community organizations that welcomed me to partner with them for outreach!”
