Puppies are here and here is some training advice about the companies selling the absurd “Halti, Soft halti or Gentle Leader.”
These are cruel head halter devices that apply pressure to sensitive points and are used in achieving desired behavior results for unethical “trainers.”
The manufacturers call it “positive training” and will say you must reward your dog with clickers and treats, just to put the halter on every time and then let the dog panic until it gives in. Then apply pressure when the dog misbehaves, let the dog panic, and so on.
This cruel torture device crushes the sensitive olfactory glands, smashes the muzzle and jaw bone and causes neck and skeletal injuries. It hurts.
Dogs hate them, can’t focus, breathe or pant correctly, panic and even foam at the mouth, all at the hands of their unconcerned “trainer” until the dog gives in and submits. These dogs and puppies cower at their ‘’Halti’s’’ every time.
A detection dog loves to see its work gear come out, same for the family dog. A deep trusting bond comes from a dog or puppy when you train with respect, love and patience. No need for these weird torture devices. There are loving gentle ways to stop a dog from pulling in just 5 seconds.
The muzzle and olfactory glands are everything to a dog and to obstruct that, to apply pain and permanent injury for obedience, is wrong. Please never put one on your adult dog or puppy.
