Since I purchased the old Bear Creek Camp and Hostel last fall, many Haines luminaries, like Dan Egolf, Dr. Higgins, Patty Brown and more, have told me that they stayed there 40 years ago when they first came to Haines. So I thought to compile a little “Bear Creek History” notebook for the kitchen house. As you drive by over the next several months, you will see we are giving the place some facelifts and maintenance. It will no longer be a hostel, but I am hoping to create something of an intentional community, renting the cabins to young folks in the outdoor guiding industry with shared kitchen, house and bathing facilities.
I had intended to have a big community potluck and campfire sometime this spring when the facilities were up and running, but for COVID-19 we will have to wait until next spring! See you then.
