How much is a human life worth? We now have an answer: “…would require renegotiating legal contracts” (Chilkat Valley News Vol. LIV, Issue 13). Perhaps the concept of force majeure would prove beneficial to those who see the world only in term of dollar bills, and who are seemingly inconvenienced by having to do things a second time; it may already exist in said contracts if those contracts were prepared with a modicum of due diligence, and as such it would have thereafter been readily available to exercise had the fine print been at all considered over the past several weeks. Alas, a lot of soap and water will be needed to wash off all that blood when the future finally does arrive.
