To be a miner in Alaska is to be a leader in responsibility and professionalism. Thank you to the many miners, both male and female, who chose to make Haines home. You have demonstrated your commitment to community in spades and deserve respect for your contributions on the front lines of the environmental movement to supply our society with responsibly sourced materials. Miners are trained in first aid and emergency response. Miners are trained in environmental management. Miners must complete annual safety training from the Federal Mine Safety and Health Administration. Miners must pass regular drug tests. Miners must maintain Federal ATF clearance for handling explosives, meaning felons need not apply. Miners work hard to earn a living wage with benefits that can support a family. Miners are local volunteers and neighborhood leaders between their shift rotations. The Haines Chapter of the Alaska Miners Association is here to support you and your family’s opportunity to work and live in Haines. We are also here to support community discussions of the opportunities and challenges of potential mine development in Haines.
