Once again the good folks of Haines did not disappoint, when we put the call out to “Help Us, Help Haines.” We here at The Salvation Army would like to thank all those who participated in making our first annual “Christmas in July” a great success. As many of you know because you have been involved in it, most of our fundraising happens during the holiday season, November and December, so by the time we get into the summer months our finances are getting a little thin. This was the reasoning behind the “Christmas in July” campaign, and with the help of this great community, we were able to surpass the goals we set for this fundraising campaign. We have earmarked these contributions to go towards Emergency Disaster Services (EDS), as well as youth programs. By not having to take this out of our general fund, it will help us continue providing the services that you have come to expect from the Salvation Army. We would like to thank all of those who contributed to the successful campaign, as well as the individuals who took the time to help work the kettles. We would also like to thank Howser’s Market, Haines Borough Police Department, Haines Borough Volunteer Fire Department, Haines Borough Assembly, and the American Legion Hall for working the kettles. As well as Mountain Market, Oleruds Market, Alaska Rods, and the Fogcutter Bar, for hosting counter kettles.
