Sousaphone makes debut, Band wins Grand Champion Award!
Thank you, Haines! Four years of fundraising recently paid off when the Haines Community Marching Band was able to purchase a brand new sousaphone. This project was also made possible by a grant from the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation, an Affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation. This instrument is truly a gift to the community as it will be made available to qualified musicians, both those visiting and/or at the Haines School. Other major contributors include the Haines Art Council, Talia’s Treasures, Diana and Jerry Pyle, Debra Schnabel, Carol Tuynman, Tom and Liz Heywood, Bob & Lisa Krebs, Diane Arnold, Jan Farmer, and lastly, Tom Morphet for his support and never-ending publicity of this project. We continue to welcome donations, both used instruments for visiting musicians and monetarily ones for purchasing marching band percussion instruments (allowing us to retire our bass drum currently pushed on a wheeled platform, and previously by a baby buggy.) A “Go-Fund-Me” account has been set up. Drops offs for consignment to the community marching band at Talia’s Treasures would also be appreciated.
