The Board of Hospice of Haines wishes to acknowledge and thank our volunteers for two significant events in two weeks. The commitment prize goes to Mardell Gunn and Diz Kistler, who for 26 years have captained checkpoint #6 of the Kluane to Chilkat International Bike Relay for Hospice of Haines. This year, the McPhetres family, Shannon, Sam, Owen and Emily, win the “step up when needed” award for helping with a very busy checkpoint #6. Thank you also to Teresa Hura, Leslie Evenden, Carol Duis, and Jennifer Duis for helping with our checkpoint. And lastly, thank you to the Bike Race Committee for the opportunity to receive a $1,500 gift for our efforts.
One week later, Volunteer Coordinator, Shannon McPhetres hosted a delicious gourmet barbecue at the Valley of the Eagles Golf Course for volunteers and their special friends. Thank you, Stan and Kathy Jones, for your generous offer in your beautiful place. We loved touring the grounds in golf carts with the spacious greenery, the iris in bloom, all with the stunning Chilkat River and mountain backdrop. How blessed we are.
