A scrap metal barge will be moored at Lutak Dock through the week where Channel Construction will receive junk cars starting Friday Dec. 14.
The company can take junk vehicles without titles, but they must be processed first, according to Haines Borough staff.
Vehicles must have transmission fluid, coolant and all other fluids including oil and gas drained. Vehicles must be free of batteries, trash and propane. Tires must be removed. The company will not accept travel trailers or RVs. Large commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks must have their transmissions removed or at least be open with the torque converters removed.

Those seeking to dispose of scrap metal should call Channel Construction, and they may schedule an inspection of the material to ensure it has been processed before its taken to the barge.
Waste should not be taken to the Lutak dock unless contracted by Channel Construction.
