This Thanksgiving I have even more to be thankful for than usual. On October 12, sudden jaw pain and strange sensations in my arms triggered an emergency trip to the SEARHC clinic. I had had a heart attack. Quick thinking by Dr. Wendel by giving me “clot busters,” along with compassionate and efficient transport to the airport by our wonderful ambulance crew, the Coast Guard transporting me by helicopter to Juneau, and Guardian Air getting me to Anchorage, literally saved my life. Without the care given by the SEARCH staff and the immediate transport up to Anchorage, the cardiologist said I would never have made it there in time. So this year, in addition to thanking God for all my blessings, I want to thank the wonderful team that helped save my life.
