The Alaska Marine Highway System’s M/V Fairweather will sail in the Upper Lynn Canal next month to cover winter holiday service gaps that arose from repair delays on other vessels serving the region.

The marine highway system was waiting on U.S. Coast Guard certifications for its service plans before releasing a revised schedule aimed at decreasing the gap.

From Friday, Dec. 7 through Sunday, Dec. 30, the Fairweather will make four runs a week between Haines, Skagway and Juneau. The LeConte will be out of service next month as it sits on dry dock, according to Alaska Department of Transportation public information officer Aurah Landau.

The Aurora’s needed hull replacement required more work than anticipated, and has delayed overhauls and repairs to other vessels, including the LeConte.
