Letter to the Haines Assembly—The votes are in. Not only did Ballot Measure 1 fail statewide, Haines voted decisively against it. Yet the assembly, without due public input or consideration, resolved that Haines should support the measure. This resolution did not represent the views of the majority of Haines residents, and was not a judicious use of borough resources. More unsettling is that this vote of support was clearly based on personal agendas. Please take this as a lesson learned. Step back from your personal feelings and represent more fairly and objectively all of Haines’ residents.

It’s dangerous to think you still know best even in the face of the majority disagreeing. That’s far from a democratic society, and very condescending. Please don’t make that mistake again.
