Thank you Haines community for supporting the Starvin’ Marvin Garden. On behalf of Takshanuk Watershed Council, I want to thank the dozens of local businesses who donated to the August 24th Garden Party Fundraiser. With your generosity, we raised over $1000 to support the continuation of Starvin’ Marvin Garden and environmental education programs in the school. Thank you to all the families and individuals who showed up to participate in the fundraiser and make the garden a special place for the community to gather and rejoice. I loved seeing children and adults alike engrossed in bubble-making, creating garden-inspired art and running about sampling nasturtium flowers, kale and raspberries. Many special thanks to all the individuals who worked behind the scenes to make the event a success, in particular: Rich Chapell and the TWC board members; Jolanta Ryan for running the children’s activities; the summer interns (Kama, Karl, Kyle and Kayleigh) for maintaining the garden and gathering donations for the live auction; and Mark McNamara for his role as auctioneer. The garden season is not over yet! If you missed the party, please stop by anytime to walk through the garden and enjoy the many crops and flowers planted by the students of Haines.
