Voters elected Sara Hannan as the Democratic candidate for the State House District 33 race.
Hannan won the primary race with 62 percent of the votes, 1,707, according to data from the Alaska Division of Elections.
Local candidate Tom Morphet earned 526 votes, 19 percent of the vote. “You need money, an organization and time,” Morphet said of his campaign. “I didn’t have any of the three.”
Morphet received a total of $4,903 in campaign contributions, according to the Alaska Public Offices Commission, compared to Hannan, who received about $33,300 in contributions.
Morphet received 162 votes from Chilkat Valley voters and Hannan received 80 votes from all Chilkat Valley districts.
Steve Handy earned 429 votes.
Another local candidate, James Hart, received 84 votes. Although he dropped out of the race late last month, it was too late to remove his name from the ballot.
Hannan will face off against Chris Dimond, who is running as an Independent.
Jesse Kiehl, a Democrat, and Don Etheridge, an Independent, will face off in the Senate District Q race. Both ran unopposed in the primary.
No Republican candidates ran in the primary elections for either race.
