Voters will choose between William Prisciandaro, Sean Maidy, Paul Rogers and Barbara Mulford for two open borough assembly seats in October.
Mulford, owner of Takshanuk Mountain Trail, submitted her paperwork for office on Monday, the last day to file. She said friends and family have been encouraging her to run for several years.
“I don’t have an ax to grind,” Mulford said. “I don’t have an agenda going in. I very much enjoy finance. I understand budgets and how they work. I’d like to get more involved in how the borough spends its money, how can we generate more, especially outside revenue.”
Mulford was a former Haines Chamber of Commerce president. She serves on the borough’s tourism advisory board.
Commercial gillnetter Will Prisciandaro filed for candidacy earlier this month. He serves on the Upper Lynn Canal Fish and Game Advisory Committee, United Southeast Alaska Gillnetters Board and the Northern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association. He said he’d like to see fishermen represented on the assembly and that he wants to be more involved in local issues.
Rogers, a Mosquito Lake resident, became more involved in local politics when the assembly began debating the merits of borough-wide policing. He later applied to sit on the public safety commission and has advocated for limited police service outside the townsite rather than a borough-wide police service area.
Assembly member Sean Maidy has filed to retain his seat. The assembly appointed Maidy to fill a seat vacated by Margaret Friedenauer last year. Voters elected him to fill the remainder of the term in October.
Michael Wald filed to serve another term on the school board. He is the only candidate running for two open seats on the board.
