The district attorney filed four felony weapons charges against the man who had a standoff with Haines Police in a home earlier this month.
The 32-year-old man, a convicted felon, is facing four counts of misconduct involving weapons in the third degree after police discovered a 9mm revolver, a .44 magnum pistol and two .357 magnum revolvers in his home. Each charge is a class C felony, punishable by up to five years in jail. In Alaska, it is against the law for people convicted of a felony to knowingly possess a firearm capable of being concealed.
On July 9, the man initially refused to come out of a house on Comstock Road when police arrived to arrest him on a warrant for felony parole violations. Police said they heard “the sound of a round being chambered in a firearm” when they knocked on the door, according to court records. A 50-minute standoff ensued before police entered the house. Police later found the four handguns in the man’s bedroom, including one loaded on the nightstand, according to court documents.
The man has 20 prior convictions, six of which are felonies for burglary and theft after a burglary spree in Haines during 2008.
The man is being held on a $10,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
