Children in the Chilkat Valley shouldn’t be bored this summer with dozens of camps, classes and activities to join. Sports, culture, language, theater, and team building are a few topics the camps cover. The following is a list of some of the events offered for students this summer. CYD Summer T-Ball Started June 4
Incoming Kindergarteners – 5th grade, 5:30-7 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday at the 1 Mile Haines Highway softball field. Cost is $30 (if already paid for soccer, $10). Call Al Giddings at 314-3094 or 766-2477.
CYD Summer Soccer Started June 5
Five years old – high school students, 4:30 p.m. elementary age and 5:30 p.m. middle and high schoolers every Tuesday and Thursday on the school track field. Groups TBD at first practice. Cost is $30 (if already paid for T-ball, $10).

AKtive Basketball Camp June 13-15
Students entering grades 3 through 7, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m .; grades 8 through 12, 1-4 p.m. at the Haines Elementary School Gym with Coach Kyle Fossman and UAA Assistant Coach Ryan Orton.

Culture and Environmental Stewardship Camp June 27-29
Free Day Camp for ages 10-13. Overnight Camp for ages 14-18. Parents are welcome to participate, other adults who want to participate must pass a background check. LCCP Summer Youth Theater Conservatory and Playmakers Workshop June 28-July 22
Three weeks of specialized instruction with a full-length production at the Chilkat Center. Ages 8-18 full time conservatory costs $275. Girl Scout Day Camp July 9-13
Discover the world, connect with other campers and take action. Incoming kindergarteners-12th grade, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. tentative times at the Haines Presbyterian Church. Vacation Bible School July 30-Aug. 3

Tlingit Culture Classes and Programs Dates TBD

Haines Science and History Camps June 18 – August 10
Week-long camps with a focus in science and environmental education. The Haines Sheldon Museum will hold four science themed day camps this summer focused on hands-on learning, outdoor exploration and encouraging creativity. The first camp begins June 18, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 10 students per camp. Cost is $200 per student. Students should bring a lunch and dress for outdoor activities.
