I wasn’t surprised by Tom Morphet’s proposal for more of his back door taxes. If we need more tax income because the assembly refuses to cut expenditures, the sales or property taxes need to be increased, which requires a vote of the people. Demonstrate the need for increases and put it on the ballot, instead of trying to bully these targeted taxes past the assembly. A 1% sales tax from April to September would not be too painful and would target the tourists to boot. People are moving, and planning to move, out of Haines because of your last tax attack. All in all you have made Haines a very unfriendly town.
