The 3rd Annual Miles Ski Classic Race was held as part of Haines Winter Fest 2018 on Chilkoot Lake Sunday and we lucked out with a sunny day between whiteouts. Our deepest gratitude goes to all the prize donors: Aspen Suites Hotel, Haines Packing Co., Caroline’s Closet, Port Chilkoot Distillery, Sockeye Cycle, Dejon Delights, Mountain Market, Miles Furniture, Sarah J’s, Katie Wendel of “Sip It Events” and Alaska Backcountry Outfitters.
This event wouldn’t have been possible without the help of: Jane Pascoe – film festival registration, Judy Ewald – race day registration and timing, Sam and Natalie Williams – timing, Katie Wendel – prizes, Phil Reeves- bonfire, Ranger Travis Russell – track-setting, Bill Holton – road and trail grooming, Jim Stanford – grooming and safety sled, Deb Stanford – barbecue, pot luck and desserts, Tom Morphet – music and the Olympic theme song on the trumpet, the Haines Tourism Department – neck gaiters, hamburgers, hotdogs, and the Southeast Alaska State Fair – barbecue.
Also, thank you to everyone who came out to ski and support the event. Dennis Miles, for whom the race is named, set and skied the track at 25 Mile for 15 years every morning and is likely smiling from the next dimension.
