The Haines school board will only interview one superintendent candidate next week.
One of the two final candidates, Patrick Manning, accepted a position in Nenana, Alaska, school board president Anne Marie Palmieri told the CVN Wednesday evening.
Manning worked as an administrator in King Salmon, Barrow and Soldotna. Several board members touted his leadership style and Alaska experience.
The school board will not consider other candidates to replace Manning, Palmieri said.
“Our only superintendent finalist is Roy Getchell,” Palmieri said. “There are going to be a number of opportunities for the community to meet him.”
Getchell has been the principal of an elementary school in Colorado since 2014. He also worked as an administrator in Abu Dhabi. Getchell applied to work for the Haines School District 27 years ago, but didn’t get the job, according to his application.
Getchell will be available for a community meet and greet on Tuesday, time and location TBA. The school board will conduct a final interview with him Wednesday morning.
