Giancarlo Gomez, 33, was sentenced May 14 after pleading guilty to driving with a revoked license on Dec. 28. An officer stopped Gomez on Lutak Road for driving 15 mph in a 40 mph zone. Gomez could not produce a license or proof of insurance. He was sentenced to five days in jail, $100 in fees, 90 days of license revocation, 80 hours of community service work and two years’ probation. A charge of failure to carry proof of insurance was dismissed.

Scott Bader, 52, was sentenced May 13 after pleading guilty to second-degree harassment on March 6. Bader pushed a woman onto a bed several times during a verbal argument, and didn’t allow her to get up. The woman called police because she was afraid Bader was going to hit her. Police said Bader exhibited signs of alcohol impairment. He was sentenced to $50 in fees, completion of a substance abuse assessment, no contact with the victim, and two years’ probation. He is prohibited from entering establishments where alcohol is consumed or served.

Bader also was sentenced May 13 after pleading guilty to violating conditions of release on April 5. A person requested a welfare check on Bader. When an officer responded to Bader’s residence, Bader exhibited signs of alcohol intoxication. Bader’s conditions of release prohibited alcohol consumption. The officer returned to the residence and arrested Bader. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail and $100 in fees.

Caleb Smith, 30, was sentenced June 5 to second-degree criminal trespass on May 9. An officer observed Smith and another person on the Port Chilkoot Dock. When contacted, Smith said he had hopped the fence to access the secured area. Smith was sentenced to $250 in fines, $50 in fees, eight hours of community service, one year probation and completion of a substance abuse assessment.

Michael Ward, 21, was sentenced June 6 after pleading no contest to fourth-degree criminal mischief on March 28.  A witness said he saw Ward jump on the hood of a vehicle and hit his head on the windshield, causing cracks in the glass. When the witness helped him down from the hood and told Ward he would have to pay for the damages, Ward jumped back on the hood and smashed the window with his foot. The window is estimated to cost $595. Ward was sentenced to a $50 fee, completion of a substance abuse assessment, 40 hours of community service, restitution, and two years’ probation.

Ron Martin, 71, was sentenced May 30 after pleading guilty to unlawful methods (using an unregistered bear bait site) on May 2, 2008. Martin illegally baited unregistered bait sites at 19 Mile, Harry’s Hole, Turtle Rock and the Chilkat Lake airstrip with grease, dog food, expired condiments and fish carcasses. Martin was sentenced to a $50 fee, forfeiture of his Piper Super Cub airplane, Ford F250 truck, Honda Foreman ATV, rifle and scope, hunting license revocation for three years, voluntary surrender of his guiding license and five years’ probation.

Martin was also sentenced May 30 after pleading guilty to unlawful acts (aiding in the commission of a violation) on May 8, 2010. A Canadian citizen hired Martin to hunt brown bear, and Martin, acting as a guide, aided in the illegal take of a brown bear at a site near 18 Mile. Martin also falsified the brown bear registration permit. Martin was sentenced to $10,000 in fines and $50 in fees. 

Tammie Rush, 45, was sentenced May 30 after pleading guilty to driving under the influence on Nov. 15, 2012. A caller reported a drunk driver and an officer made contact with Rush at 10 Mile Haines Highway. Rush had trouble focusing, blood-shot eyes, difficulty speaking and could not put the vehicle in park. A Breathalyzer showed Rush’s blood-alcohol level at.253. She was sentenced to 25 days in jail, $4,467 in fines, $125 in fees, one year’s license revocation, 12 months of driving with an ignition interlock device, three years’ probation and completion of a substance abuse assessment.
