KHNS highlighted new programming and staff changes to meet budget challenges at its annual meeting Thursday, Sept. 28, at the Haines Brewing Company.

Magaret Friedenauer moved into the program director position after Janine Allen left the station and Madeline Witek was hired as their development operations director, KHNS board member Russ Lyman told volunteers.

KHNS News Director Emily Files is also leaving next month and KHNS is looking for a new reporter to fill the position.

Lizi Wirak and Dustin Craney are the latest additions to the KHNS board.

KHNS has faced state budget cuts for the past several years but still receives healthy local donations. Haines and Skagway listeners donated more than $72,000 to the station in its most recent fund drive.

Witek announced several programming changes. Lynn Canal Weekend, a local show, is being replaced by Undercurrents Weekend, a Native Voice One produced music show, which includes interviews and stories from across the country.

A half-hour weekly political show, Left, Right & Center, will air Friday evenings at 7 p.m.

An hour-long time slot on Tuesdays will be devoted to Planet Money and How I Built This.
