The two-man team of Ralph Swinton and Jesse McGraw won the 6th Annual International Open golf tournament at the Valley of the Eagles Golf Links in Haines Saturday, their signature event.
Jenny Lyn Smith and Marian Carlson won the women’s division. Eighteen players, including some from Juneau and Whitehorse, battled strong north winds for 18 holes. Birdies were rare as the wind forced players to be creative.
McGraw said his formula for winning was, “we tried not to hit bad shots and hoped the good teams struggled.” It worked and they took home the $250 first prize.
A youth golf camp is set for Aug. 16-18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $25 per day, with equipment provided. For more information, call 766-2401.
