It’s good to see positive things happening in Haines, like the Sunday swim. Some are claiming it costs $17,000. But you can relax. Ask yourself who is receiving the $17,000? The pool is the answer. The pool is Haines Borough. It’s Haines Borough paying Haines Borough. The only real cost is the lifeguard, about $30 for two hours and electricity for lights, about five dollars. This also creates a job.

Thank you, assembly, for investing in the health of Haines and its families, creating a chance for parents to have good clean fun with – and teach water safety to – their kids. The Sunday swim gives us better reasons to live here and creates employment opportunities. It’s a win-win swim.

They start in November.
