The Haines Hot Shots and Haines Glacier Bears shooting teams traveled to Birchwood for a state shooting competition this month.
Dawson Holm, Jackson Long, and Caleb Holm competed for the Hot Shots. Cade Clay, Corbin Holm, Odin Jacobson, and Joseph Rossman represented the Glacier Bears.
Each athlete competed in five events, including 100 rounds of American Trap, American Skeet, and Sporting Clays, and 50 rounds of wobble trap and double trap.
Awards were given out for the top three places in each division, including novice (grades 4-5), junior (grades 6-8), junior varsity (grades 9-10) and varsity (grades 11-12). About 120 shooters from across the state competed over four days.
In addition to state placings, awards were also given for the spring virtual series, and an all-state team.

Spring virtual awards: Dawson Holm, 2nd place, novice; Long, 3rd place, novice; Cade Clay, 2nd place, JV; Trap Triumphant: Dawson Holm, 2nd place, novice; Long, 3rd place, novice; Skeet: Dawson Holm, 2nd place, novice; Cade Clay, 2nd place, JV; Sporting Clays: Long, 3rd place, novice; Straight Trap: Long, 2nd place, novice.
Corbin Holm was the highest-ranking shooter from Haines with a total of 372 out of 500 birds shot, and fourth overall in state for his division. Coaches Tim and Nicole Holm accompanied the group. Zach Jacobson came over from Delta to watch his son shoot and help out with the camp.
Haines shooters stayed in two large tents and camped out for the week. Shooting is on break until August.
