Once again, the Friends of the Haines Borough Public Library (FHBPL) is grateful to the Chilkat Valley Community Foundation (CVCF) for their help in beautifying the library.
With the generous support of CVCF (and a donation from American Seafoods Company in Seattle) the FHBPL was able to reupholster eighteen chairs and two stools for the reading room, internet stations and conference room. By the end of July 2016, we topped a million (1,062,600) visitors to the library, so it’s no surprise the chairs were showing wear.
The FHBPL provides additional money and support for library materials, equipment, programs and services through a variety of fundraisers and a membership drive. On more than one occasion, CVCF has helped the Friends group foster the library’s mission to be responsive to community needs, and we would like to thank them for their continued support. In a community of 2,500 fulltime residents, the library has over 3,000 registered local and visiting patrons, maintains a collection of over 35,000 books, magazines and audiovisual materials, and provides Internet access. It functions as a community center and meeting facility, and hosts over 1,000 meetings and programs annually with an attendance of more than 11,300.

Thank you, Chilkat Valley Community Foundation, for your ongoing investment in the community of Haines.
