In regard to the timber sale in Porcupine, have you thought about why a state like Oregon (home of the timber wolves) needs to buy timber and ship it at a huge expense south to their mills. I grew up in Oregon and I’ll tell you. If you drive through Oregon it will appear that it’s full of trees. This is an illusion for the public on a strip along the highway. All else is barren of trees due to over 100 years of logging without consideration of the future.
I am not against using our natural resources. If you’re in Porcupine, hunting to feed your family, I’ll lend you my chainsaw and single tree. But if you believe you have the right to take future children’s and old folks’ food and firewood so that you can finance your whole “life style,” trucks, houses, etc., then you’re “walking on the fighting side of me.” This land belongs to all of us, present and future generations. It would only take a few years to clearcut the Haines forest. What would happen to the game many depend on for their very survival? The salmon are already in trouble, which will affect the whole valley, every man, woman and child.
We’re all in this together. Let’s husband this land, not rape it.
