The Haines Sheldon Museum is set to have a busy June with numerous upcoming events. The grand opening of the Haines Archives and Research Center will take place June 2.

“After 2 years of work on the archives, we’re opening it so the public can see what we have,” said museum director Helen Alten.

The museum received grants from nine different sources to organize, catalog and study their archives, which were moved to the lower level. The grand opening reception is 5 p.m. Friday, June 2.

The opening reception for a show of Alaskan Members of the Portrait Society of America also is June 2. The show will display 26 portraits, landscapes and still-lifes by seven artists, including Donna Catotti, Carol Clifton, Yuko Hayes and Beverly Schupp.

The reception begins at 5 p.m. June 2 and the show runs through July 30.
