Last weekend the compassionate spirit of our community overflowed. The Hospice of Haines annual rummage sale grossed $10,704.01! We have several hundred residents to thank. First of all, thanks to the scores of donors who brought quality goods to offer for our sale. Thanks to Cindy Buxton who organized this year’s sale. Eighty-plus volunteers sorted, priced, and bustled around doing any number of large and small tasks to help out over 375 hours in a four-day effort. Special mention for endurance goes to Mardell Gunn, Carol Duis, Jean Smith, Diane LaCourse, Ron Jackson, Leslie Evenden and Tim McDonough. There were many who worked an entire nine-hour day and others who worked shorter stints throughout the sale. Thank you to Bill Jurgeleit for taking the extra load at Haines Friends of Recycling. Thank you to ANB, Howsers and Haines Home Building Supply for lending tables and shelving. Thanks to Judy Ewald for mailing 16 boxes of unsold clothing to those in need in Arkansas! Thanks to Leanne Converse for sending on clothing to an orphanage in Uganda. But truly, we could not boast the success of our sale if it weren’t for Community Waste Solutions who accepted our unwanted items and refuse.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire community.
