A few days ago, I woke up thinking about assembly members who have been singled out for recall. I wondered: with the budget, manager hire and so many other issues, why are these individuals still showing up at meetings and working diligently for our community?

The answer, I believe, is that Tom Morphet, Heather Lende and Tresham Gregg care about our community – more than they care about their own vulnerability.

I can vouch from personal experience that those who fully commit to this office work hard for us. It’s not just assembly meetings. It’s also telephone calls, pre-work and other meetings (committees, budget, personnel, executive, and meetings with the manager, public and others).

Our assembly is composed of humans who volunteer themselves to work for our collective best interests. They are also learners, as we all are. Rather than subjecting them to attacks for what some perceive to be wrong, they deserve acknowledgement for their commitment, good work and efforts. Borrowing from Evelyna’s letter, they are “champions of our town.”
