Mr. Ordonez asked a keenly astute land-use question, “How can the rights of the various user groups be respected so that all of us can enjoy the ride?” (Beware… Feb. 16)

The answer is great news for all: the United States of America and the State of Alaska have tackled land-use designations at length and the results very clearly assure room for everyone to have fun! The state and federal governments have invested more dollars and hours than our borough could afford in planning efforts; this resulted in specifically designated areas for all types of use – including 3,292,000 acres of non-motorized lands in state and federal parks whose borders are less than 15 miles from downtown Haines! Best of all, these efforts were conducted through a public process to ensure the widest interests were represented and considered.

How can the rights of various user groups be respected? By respecting the already-designated use areas! I’m heading to enjoy the outside right now, and I’d love for any and all to join me.
