On Feb. 2, four weeks ago, a fire destroyed our home. In just a few hours, we lost almost everything. Since that evening, we have received so much support and assistance from our dear friends, family, and people we hardly know. The next morning, people began stopping by our store with gift baskets, cards, gift certificates, money, clothing, and lodging. Judy Erekson and Lee Heinmiller made our meals and gave us a place to sleep and relax. Pam and Dave Long provided a haven for us at The Attic. A team of laborers was summoned by our amazing staff, Alixanne Goodman and Charlotte Cizek. This group of hardy folks rallied immediately to tackle the demolition and cleanup of the remaining property. It was a huge relief to be able to get this done in February! Please know that we appreciate each monetary donation made on our behalf! We are very grateful to the firefighters who worked to extinguish the blaze and secure the property. We are thankful to each and every one of you that contributed, in so many ways to relieve the strain of this life-changing event. Our sons Ben and Will Egolf were touched by all the support and will always be proud to call Haines, Alaska their hometown! We will never forget the generosity we’ve received.
