I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who went above and beyond during the Christmas season to help those who needed a “hand up.” Your generosity enabled us to supply 100 holiday food boxes, which feed a family of four a Christmas meal. We were also able to distribute toys and gifts and share the Christmas spirit.
All of the individuals making this a great Christmas season are too long to list, so we thank you. I would like to highlight a few of the organizations and businesses and thank them for their generosity: The Ministerial Association of Haines, and Howsers, Oleruds’, and Moose Caboose Café for letting us have our kettles there, so folks would have a place to donate their spare change. We would like to thank the school for doing a canned food drive, the Haines Women’s Christian Fellowship and the silent auction, and all the “Cookies by the Pound” ladies. We would also like to give a special thank-you to the Uglys of Haines for all of their hard work collecting toys to make sure those who needed them would have a merry Christmas.
It was a great holiday season. We were, however, about $1,000 behind last year in our donations, which we need to be making up throughout the year. Once again, thank you to everyone for supporting The Salvation Army and remember: Need knows no season.
Lt. Kevin Woods, Haines Salvation Army
