The family of Leo Smith would like to thank the community of Haines for your prayers, cards, flowers and loving support during the recent loss of our beloved husband/father/grandfather. We would especially like to thank the Haines EMT team for their rapid response and compassionate care getting Leo from the accident site in Haines to Providence hospital in Anchorage, and for Mike Binkie accompanying him until family could get to his side. We would also like to thank the American Legion Post #12 and Haines Borough for helping us to navigate the complexities of preparing for and conducting the memorial service and burial. A big thank-you is also due to the Paula Martin family, for allowing fulfillment of Leo’s wishes to be buried next to his lifelong hunting buddy Gene Martin. The whole community of Haines has been extremely loving and supportive during this difficult time of loss. The community lovingly looked after Leo and George Ann prior to the accident, and that loving care has continued for Leo’s family during and following the accident. The community of Haines should be proud of the legacy of family, unity and caring they are creating. Thank you; you have touched our hearts in a very loving way.
