Haines school board member Mike Wilson will vacate his seat on the board after the Dec. 13 meeting.

Wilson made the announcement at Tuesday’s special meeting that he is moving to Arizona to be closer to family. He will have served about two years of a three-year term.

President Anne Marie Palmieri said the board will advertise for the open seat and accept applications for the position.

At its Jan. 10 meeting, the board will review applications and interview candidates. Members will then discuss and decide in executive session and announce their appointment of the new member.

The new board member will serve from January through October 2017, and then may choose to run for a permanent seat in 2017’s municipal election.
