The state has closed the Takhin Ridge area to mountain goat hunting as of midnight Wednesday because its harvest quota has been reached.

This is the area bound by the Takhin River on the south, the Tsirku River on the west and north and the Chilkat River on the east. The harvest target for that area is five points – one point for each male goat and two points for each female goat. As of Tuesday, two females and one male had been harvested.

A Sept. 4 aerial survey of that zone showed 98 adult mountain goats and 24 kids.
